While most of us have shifted to offering online/virtual playbills at our performances, it’s always nice to have a hard-copy, tangible playbill to hand out to those who want them and for those who like to keep them as souvenirs.
Designing and creating a playbill can be a daunting task, so we wanted to help by recommending a few resources that could make your life a little easier! All our recommendations include space for ads, cast and crew information, and more.
Playbill’s Playbillder
Everyone knows Playbill, whether you realize it or not. They are the leader in playbills, and if you’ve ever attended a Broadway or off-Broadway show in NYC, you will have been handed a playbill by Playbill. Luckily for us, they have an online service that helps you create your very own! While their online version is free for schools and non-profits, you can design and, for $70 (at the time of writing this), download a version to send to a printer or print (minimum 125) through Playbill themselves for an additional fee.
Canva Playbill Template
If using Playbill’s Playbillder is not your cup of tea and you have experience with Canva, this option is for you! Our very own Krystyana has created two Playbill Canva templates for community theaters, schools, and non-profits to use. The 12-page Straight Play Playbill template includes a title page, space for cast headshots, a letter from the director/producer/board, a cast list, setting information, cast and crew bios, and ad space. The 16-page Musical Playbill template includes everything in the Straight Play template plus a page for musical numbers and space for crediting your orchestra or band. You can purchase each template for $20 and have it for life!
Hopefully these will take the stress off creating a professional looking playbill/program! Let us know if you have any other playbill/program templates, sites, tips or tricks!
